“Yes, and…”
For those who’ve ever studied the art of comedy improvisation, the phrase “Yes, and…” is well known: saying no to a question or idea stops a scene cold, while yes opens infinite possibilities.
David Razowsky has been saying yes to new challenges throughout his life, and his latest challenge has been taking him around the world.
A native Chicagoan, David was a longtime cast member and instructor at Chicago’s famed Second City, the grandaddy of American improv theaters. He later moved to LA and taught at Second City’s Hollywood outpost.
When the LA theater shut its doors, David coached privately and finally said yes to the challenge of writing a book detailing his style of teaching improv: A Subversive’s Guide to Improvisation.
The book, combined with a growing online classroom, led David to hit the road teaching students from all walks of life the tools of improvisation. He’s since held classes as far away as Australia, New Zealand, The UK, Ireland, throughout Europe, and even China.
As someone well-versed in all the places comedy can take you, it’s always fun to meet a fellow traveler who used humor to widen his world.
