Ron Placone has a dream, and it’s in Italy.
For years, the LA-based comedian/writer has wanted to earn his Italian citizenship through his ancestral background, start reaping the benefits of an EU passport, and pave the way to possibly take up residence there.
When we last interviewed Ron in December of 2021, he had secured an Italian immigration lawyer and begun the application process. The ball was rolling. But earlier this year, the Italian government changed the rules- and Ron’s (and many others) dreams were dashed.
We circled back with Ron to learn valuable lessons for anyone else thinking of applying for Italian citizenship, and to see how he’s holding up in the wake of the disappointing news.
Turns out Ron has been keeping himself quite busy in the meantime: writing, directing and starring in a feature film and stage play, and performing at The famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland.
He also managed to sneak in his first trip to Japan, as well as side trips to Canada and the Mexican Riviera.
While disappointed, Ron has new plans in the works and we can’t wait to see where they lead!
