May 7, 2026 Teresa Stevens The Dandelion's Journey
Listen Now

They say a dandelion can grow through just about anything.

When it comes to navigating and thriving in new environments, immigrants have always found themselves at an inherent disadvantage.

But like that persistent plant,  that doesn’t mean they still can’t grow to great heights wherever they may be. Dr. Teresa Stevens knows this as well as anyone.

The Mexico City native has called Calgary, Alberta home for over 20 years, and the university professor has literally written the book on the immigrant experience.

Teresa’s book, The Dandelion’s Journey: An Anthropologist’s Guide To Work, Family, Career and a Good Life Abroad, acts as a kind of how-to manual for strangers in a strange land.

We got to know Teresa and her own immigrant struggles, including overcoming language difficulty, cold climates, and kids who leaned more into hockey, rugby  and American Football over Mexico’s beloved soccer.

It was a pleasure to meet Teresa and gain personal insights on immigration past the news headlines.

Gracias, Teresa!
