A Tall Order from Down Under.
That’s how someone (well, me really) would describe six-foot-five Australian journalist/photographer Ronan O’Connell, who despite his stature, has a knack for laying low while quietly documenting the world around him.
Raised in Perth in Western Australia, notoriously one of the world’s most remote cities, Ronan had a yearning early on to travel the world.
He started his journalism career in newspapers, eventually moving on to elite magazines like Condé Nast Traveler and National Geographic.
Along the way, Ronan met his now wife in her native Bangkok, and for ten years the couple split their time living in Thailand and Ireland, home to Ronan’s extended family. With the arrival of their son, the family settled permanently back in Perth.
Ronan traveled to 40-plus countries and five continents for his first book, Hidden in Plain Sight, which highlights unique, little-known stories behind some of the world’s most famous landmarks.
While he works on his second book, the lifelong athlete and sports fan has taken pity on his knees and settled in to a more low-impact hobby – golf. Hope he’s ready for a different kind of pain!
See you on the course, Ronan!
